TRAVELLING TO VIENNA
Wien Schwechat is Vienna’s International Airport. It is located approximately 18 kilometers southeast of the city near a small town called Schwechat, hence its name. The airport is home to Austria’s national carrier which has direct flights to North America. The airport also hosts a variety of regional and international airlines that have flight connections throughout Europe and the rest of the world. Vienna has an efficient and extensive public transport system. The trains are commonly known as the S-Bahn routes and the underground is the U-Bahn. There are also buses that provide additional connections around the city. Taxis are on call 24 hours a day and a good option if you plan on dining out or attending a show that may end late at night. There is an extensive road system but it is not recommended for foreigners to drive there, as there are many one-way and narrow streets in parts of the city. It’s instead recommended to use the subway or taxis to get around.

CULTURAL ATTRACTIONS
It’s not quite possible to do all of Vienna’s attractions justice in a short time. The best way to ensure you get to see all the sights that are of interest to you is to do some reading up prior to your arrival. That way you can highlight the places that you really want to see and put them at the top of your sightseeing list. There are many magnificent museums, art galleries, places of historical interest, and buildings that showcase ornate architecture. Guided city tours provide a good initial overview of Vienna and can be booked at the local tourist information office.
BEST SEASON TO VISIT
The most popular season to visit Vienna is during the warm summer months which run from mid-May to September. The warmest months are June and July which coincide with the peak tourist season. The spring thaw starts in mid-March and the weather is usually warm and pleasant during this season. Many travelers wishing to take advantage of mid-season specials find this a great time of year to travel. The autumn season is possibly the least favorable time of year to visit as it can be particularly windy. The winter months run from November to mid-March and are characterized by relatively short days and cold temperatures. Snowfalls do occur infrequently but seldom last more than a day or two. Vienna is quite famous for its Christmas markets and many people visit over the festive season to enjoy the Christmas lights and festivities.
